History
The Printing Press was incorporated in April of
1978. George and Mary (Pritzi) Klear purchased the business from
The Enterprise where George was the General Manager for many years.
We operated from that location until moving into our present location,
on Courthouse Drive in Leonardtown, on April 1st of 1979. Our Print
Shop was constructed by family and friends over the course of a
year. George died suddenly in 2004. Pritzi, his son Kerry, and wife,
Jill, took over the operation and have strived to continue the quality
product, personal service and community support that George was
so well known for.
The business started out with the machinery that came with the initial
purchase which included a 22” Heidelberg offset press, two Multilith
1250 offset presses, a folder, cutter and various other miscellaneous
equipment. We purchased all new pre-press equipment. Including our
family members, we have averaged 10 full time and several part time
employees.
Over the past 30 years, we have replaced all of the original machinery
at least once each, most twice. Our current presses are two 20”
Heidelberg GTO 52s. One is a single color and the other a two color
perfector. We also have a Ryobi 3200 two color for producing our
smaller size jobs. In the pre-press department, we are PC based
and produce most of our work using Microsoft and Adobe software,
although we can work with most any software. In the post press area
we offer many options, to include creasing, scoring, perforating,
die cutting, numbering, padding, heavy duty stapling, envelope inserting,
laminating and more.
We offer several bindery solutions to include Perfect Binding, Saddle
Stitch, GBC Binding, Coil Binding, and Hard Back cover binding.
All binding is done in house, no third party.
We have just added a new Single Sided Laminator that adds a high
gloss protective finish.
Our operation is set up to provide a quick turn around on most work,
especially newsletters and time critical items such as funeral programs,
manuals and briefs.
We offer wedding announcements and invitations in house and through
several vendors. We have been recognized by Carlson Craft as a Distinguished
Dealer each year since 1992.
Since the start of our business, we have provided many of our services
and products to community organizations and non-profit groups at
a reduced cost to help with their fund raising and community assistance
efforts. We support many of the County Fire and EMS departments,
Special Olympics, Rotary Clubs, Optimist Clubs, private fund raising
events, and other community service agencies with donations of materials
and services.
